Composites are images created by extracting frames (generally keyframes) from videos posted by Unfavorable Semicircle and arranging those extracted frames in a grid. The width of the grid used is usually established by internal evidence within an image (creating straight lines, for example).

The first discovery of a 2D composite happened in April 20, 2016 (♐LOCK), and February 3, 2017 for the first 3D composite (♐BREADTH). This is noteworthy because some of the most notable composites that came later, such as ♐HARVEST could have been created purposefully for the solving community to find them, including the entirety of 3D composites as the upload of ♐BREADTH postdates the discovery of 2D composites. UFSC has been suspected of interacting indirectly with the community (see ♐FOND) so it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine composites being used as intentional messages, red-herrings, pranks…
